Welcome to Jim and Joyce's travel blog. This blog is for our family and friends who want to follow along as we live our dream of traveling around the country in our Cougar fifth-wheel. Hope you enjoy reading about this as much as we are enjoying living it.

A few more things about Yuma....

Sat - Mar 12
Visited the Yuma Territorial Prison built in 1875 by the prisoners themselves.
Over 3,000 prisoners, including 29 women, spent time in this prison.  It was closed in September of 1909.

Six prisoners to a cell

This prisoner looks familiar.
Parts of the prison were carved out of solid rock.  For punishment, a prisoner would sometimes be chained to the floor along with his cellmates, so that none of them could sleep on their bed.

Unruly prisoners were placed in the Dark Cell with no windows.

We went straight from the prison to the Lettuce Days Festival where we saw this guy carving fruits and vegetables.  Lookout, Martha Stewart!

Just to prove they really do have streets named "1/2" here is the Avenue 8 1/2 exit.

Tues - Mar 15
Arrived at Gold Canyon RV and Golf Resort, near Mesa, AZ.  Joyce and Diane's cousin, Bill Wersch, and his wife, Mary Ann, are already here.  In fact, we are in site 531, right next to Bill but Diane and Tim are over in 235 - the "Pet Section" which Tim refers to as the Leper Colony.

The weather has been sunny and hot - pushing 90 - which they say is above average for this time of year.

The park has a 9-hole golf course running through it which has some challenging greens.  The 9th green is raised and almost completely surrounded by water.

backside, in case you go over

Sat - Mar 19
Cousin Randy Wersch and his wife, Karen, drove over for the day from Florence, AZ.  They drive down from Kamloops, BC, for a couple of months each winter and stay in a park model at the Cliente Casa del Sol, about 25 miles from Gold Canyon.  There was much fun with visiting, golf, pool (as in billiards), Happy Hour and potluck dinner.  Randy was in high demand for Pickle Ball lessons.  They came back Sunday for more of the same.

More Happy Hour stuff (we're getting pretty good at this)

Mon - Mar 21
Rained all day today.  Have to put that in there so the folks back home will feel better.
Tues - Mar 22
The sun is back.  High of 69 today.  Diane and Tim are leaving this morning headed for Laughlin, NV and then Sin City (Las Vegas).
